What are Designer Shingles
When replacing your roof, you are often only offered architectural or 3-tab as options. Little do most folks know that there are many other lines carried by each manufacturer. These other lines are known in the roofing world as "Designer Shingles".
For years, the market was dominated by 3-tab shingles that ranged from 20-25 years, in lifespan. Around 3 decades ago, architectural shingles were introduced and began to gain popularity. With more curb appeal and a longer lifespan, they slowly captured the market share originally held by the 3-tabs. Fast forward 30 years and architectural shingles are the majority of what you see on homes. The 3-tab and architectural shingles are still readily available from most suppliers. Unfortunately, these 2 options, are common, the only choices provided to a homeowner when replacing their roof.
This is where Designer Shingles come in. Designer shingles are meant to be unique. They totally change the exterior of a home. The manufacturing process is similar to that of other shingles. However, designer shingles are intended to be a different style, texture, layer and color than traditional shingles.
